Vittorio Gassman (Italy, 1922-2000) was a cinema and stage actor and director, novelist and playwright, poet and TV showman, who worked in more than 120 movies and 100 theatre plays, winning several awards, such as the Palm d'Or at Cannes Festival, the Davide di Donatello, the Grolla d'Oro or the Nastro d'Argento in Italy, and many others. Today he is considered an important part of the Italian culture and history. Also known as “Il Mattatore”, Gassman was renowned for his versatility, professionalism, his temper and for his scandalous private life.
